Daniel - Week 1: Day 5

Day 5 - Resolve

I thought I would do something a little different today.  There were three words primarly used in today's homework: resolve, consistency, and integrity.  I thought I would simply explore those three words using a dictionary and thesaurus and see what jumps out...

resolve:
as a noun it's meaning: firm or unwavering adherence to oneʼs purpose
similar words: determination
example: "I admire your resolve to get your project done"

as a verb it's meanings:
1 to come to a judgment after discussion or consideration
similar words: decide
example: "After talking with my friends, I resolved to try out for the play"

2 to find an answer for through reasoning
similar words: solve
example: "resolve the problem"

Can you apply these meanings of resolve to your Bible study?  Let's have determination to stand firm to placing Bible study as a priority.  Let's come to come to decisions on matters of life by considering and reasoning with the Bible as our guide.

Consistent

1 archaic : possessing firmness or coherence

2 a : marked by harmony, regularity, or steady continuity : free from variation or contradiction b : marked by agreement : compatible —usually used with with c : showing steady conformity to character, profession, belief, or custom

3 : tending to be arbitrarily close to the true value of the parameter estimated as the sample becomes large

I personally like the definiation of 2c - showing steady conformity.  In that as we are consistent in our Bible study we are continually growing in our character, growing ever closer to the character of Jesus.

Integrity

1 : firm adherence to a code of especially moral or artistic values : incorruptibility

2 : an unimpaired condition : soundness

3 : the quality or state of being complete or undivided : completeness

similar words:  honesty

So the conclusion to my little word study is that if we are resolved to be consistent with Bible study we have integrity.

Or put another way, using other words: if we are determined to have regular and continuing Bible study we are incorruptible and complete.

Of course we are not perfect, but we can strive for consistency and we also have to consider Satan in all of this.  The workbook said is perfectly...

Satan never wastes a fiery dart by aiming at a spot covered by armor.  The bull's-eye is located dead center in our inconsistency.

Let's resolve to make that bull's eye as small as possible!!!
