Stepping Up: Week 2 - Day 1

Day 1 - Our Own House, Our Own City

Today's lesson focused on...

Psalm 122:1 I rejoiced with those who said to me, 'Let us go to the house of the LORD.'

The lesson states "Church is a huge part of a believer's life."  This is so true, and I think that it is one of the keys to being able to grow in your spiritual journey.  If you do not attend church then you are missing out on a big part of what you need to grow.   So why should we attend church?  Here are just a couple verses...

Hebrews 10:25 And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage and warn each other, especially now that the day of his coming back again is drawing near.

1 Thessalonians 4:18 So comfort and encourage each other with these words.

1 Thessalonians 5:11 So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.

James 5:16 Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and wonderful results.

How can we possibly accomplish all of these things if we do not go to church.  How can we do all these things for "each other" if we never go and see other believers.  We need to go to church, not only to hear the Word of God, but to fellowship and build godly relationships.  In doing so we will grow closer to God.

To be honest, I have a hard time getting to church. When we moved here Oct. 2009, we had a church in mind to become a part of to grow and to meet others. With the move and getting everything sorted we didn't go. A mistake on our part..I had a stroke day before thanksgiving (1 month after moving) so more months have gone by that we did not go. Now I am struggling with many issues, still wanting to go but not always getting there. We make sure our daughter goes but there is always something coming up on my end. I beat myself up for not going. I'm missing out but have a body that is not cooperating with me. Praying for answers to do what He wants me to do.

Sara don't beat yourself up!!! You can only do what your body will allow you to do. I also know that it is easy to get out of the 'habit' of going to church, so you need to get back into the habit of going. Make it a priority to get there, as much as your body will allow you to. I will continue to pray for you...
